Following the removal of Java Applet support from almost all browsers, most of the content of this web site became unusable. As a consequence, the site lay dormant with no updates since 2011. But at the end of June (2020), my friend Andrea wrote to me about her discovery of a converter that reads a java Applet jar file and spits out a javascript imitation (see cheerpj ). This is particularly significant now because just as all browsers have dropped java Applet support, they all now include javascript support. (I am reminded of the battle between Betamax and VHS, another technological contest in which the poorer solution won the day.)
So notwithstanding my distaste, I have accepted the challenge of rewriting some of my old Applets in this strange language, devoid of all decency but providing just enough capability to allow animated puzzles to be resurrected.
